Dress to Impress Guide Updated 30 October 2026

Dress to Impress — official Roblox game image

Dress to Impress (DTI) is Roblox's fashion runway game: a theme is announced, the clock starts, and everyone races to build the best outfit before walking the runway for votes. It looks simple, but the players who win consistently do a few specific things differently. This guide covers how rounds, stars and ranks really work, and the habits that win. For free wardrobe pieces, grab every code on our Dress to Impress codes page first.

How Dress to Impress works

Each round announces a theme — anything from "Red Carpet" to "Halloween". You get a few minutes in the salon to build an outfit from clothing, hair, makeup and accessories, then walk the runway while the other players vote on your look with 1 to 5 stars. Stars are both your score and your progression: they fill your rank meter, taking you from New Model up through the model ranks toward Top Model, and the best outfits each round earn bonus rewards.

Your first rounds — step by step

Step 1

Read the theme twice before touching anything. Half of winning is dressing for the theme that was actually announced, not the outfit you wish it was.

Step 2

Pick a base outfit that fits the theme, then hair and skin tone, then accessories. Base first — accessories cannot rescue a wrong dress.

Step 3

Layer. Add a jacket, bag, jewellery or a second piece over the base (layering is explained below) — layered outfits read as "designed" and score higher.

Step 4

Save a minute for the runway: choose a pose sequence that matches your look's mood. A confident walk presentation lifts borderline outfits.

Step 5

Vote on everyone else, honestly and on theme. Fair rooms vote fairly back, and generous-but-honest voting is the culture that keeps scores meaningful.

Layering — the skill that wins DTI

DTI lets you wear multiple items in the same category at once — a dress over a skirt, a jacket over a top, several accessories together. Beginners wear one of everything; winners compose. Three rules cover most of it: keep one colour story (two main colours plus one accent), match the formality level of every piece to the theme, and stop before it gets busy — if an item does not add to the theme, remove it. Code items are perfect layering material because they are free, distinctive, and most lobbies are not wearing them.

Ranks and stars

Stars from every runway add up permanently toward your next rank, from New Model upward. Higher ranks mostly bring prestige and access to rank-locked items and areas, but the real benefit of ranking up is invisible: experienced lobbies vote more accurately on theme, so your best outfits get the scores they deserve. There is no shortcut — play rounds, dress on theme, and the meter fills.

6 tips to win more runways

1. Theme beats beauty. A plain outfit that nails "Gothic Vampire" beats a gorgeous gown that ignores it. When in doubt, be more literal.

2. Redeem every code. DTI codes give free dresses, sets and accessories — a bigger wardrobe is a permanent advantage, and it costs nothing.

3. Use the dressing room time fully. Winners are still adjusting layers at the end. If you finish early, you missed a layer, a colour fix, or better hair.

4. Build two or three "signature" looks. Practised combinations you can rebuild fast for common themes (formal, cute, dark, summer) save you whenever the clock feels short.

5. Watch the winners. After each round, look at what the top three did with the theme. It is a free fashion lesson every single round.

6. Play duos with a friend. Coordinated pair outfits are memorable, and memorable is what 5-star votes are made of.

Dress to Impress — FAQ

How do I rank up in Dress to Impress?

Stars earned on the runway accumulate toward your next rank, starting from New Model. Play complete rounds, dress closely to the theme to earn more stars per round, and your rank rises steadily — there is no way to buy your way past playing.

Why do my outfits score low even when they look good?

Almost always theme fit. Voters score the theme first and prettiness second. Make your theme reading obvious — if the theme is 'Winter', voters should see winter in the first second, not after studying the outfit.

Do Dress to Impress codes expire?

Yes. Event and celebration codes (like milestone codes) are limited-time, while some classic item codes last much longer. Redeem new codes quickly, and copy them exactly — many DTI codes swap letters for numbers, so typing them by hand causes most failures.

What is the fastest way to get more clothes?

Codes first (they are free and instant), then playing rounds to earn currency for shop items, and ranking up for rank-locked pieces. A wide wardrobe built over a few weeks beats any single purchase.
