Rivals is Roblox's hit first-person shooter built around fast duels — 1v1 up to 5v5 — where rounds are short, aim is king, and movement separates beginners from winners. Keys unlock the weapons that define your loadout, and codes are one of the best free sources of them. This guide covers how duels, weapons and Keys work and the habits that win gunfights. Grab the free Keys and wraps first from our Rivals codes page (and note the developer-follow requirement explained there).
Two sides face off in short rounds on compact maps; eliminate the enemy team to win the round, and win the most rounds to win the duel. Between rounds you pick from your unlocked weapons — a primary, a secondary, a melee and a utility slot. Winning duels, completing contracts (in-game missions) and redeeming codes earn Keys, the currency that unlocks new weapons, plus wraps and charms that customise them.
Play 1v1s and 2v2s first. Small lobbies give you the most gunfights per minute, which is how aim actually improves.
Set your sensitivity before anything else: one you can turn 180 degrees with comfortably, then leave it alone for a week. Consistency is the skill.
Do contracts every session. Contracts are the steadiest free Key income in the game, and Keys are new weapons.
Redeem every code — but follow a developer first (@Nosniy or @SenseiWarrior on Roblox), or Rivals codes will not work at all.
Unlock weapons for the maps you play: a sniper for open maps, a shotgun or SMG for tight ones (loadout guide below).
| Slot | How to choose |
|---|---|
| Primary | The Assault Rifle is the all-round default and the right first unlock path. Specialise later: Sniper for long sightlines, Shotgun for close maps, SMG/burst weapons for aggressive play. |
| Secondary | Your finisher when the primary runs dry mid-fight. Pick reliability — the pistol you can actually land shots with beats a fancy one you cannot. |
| Melee | Movement and style as much as damage: melee out is how fast players rotate between fights. |
| Utility | Grenades and support items win rounds quietly — flushing corners, blocking sightlines, and healing between fights in team modes. |
Rivals rewards players who are hard to hit: slide into and out of cover, jump-peek corners instead of walking around them, and never sprint in a straight line across open ground. Combine slides and jumps to change your speed and height as you cross — a moving target with an unpredictable rhythm wins duels against better aimers surprisingly often. Practise movement in casual lobbies until it is automatic; in a real duel you should be thinking about the shot, not the keys.
1. Pre-aim corners. Keep your crosshair where an enemy's head will appear, at head height, before you round the corner. Most "fast reactions" are just pre-aiming.
2. Fight from cover, not from the open. Take shots with an escape route beside you. If you cannot name your cover, you are the target.
3. Learn one map at a time. Callouts, sightlines and flank routes are permanent knowledge. Depth on three maps beats vagueness on twenty.
4. Spend Keys on weapons, not wraps. Wraps look great and shoot exactly the same. Unlocks change your options; cosmetics change your screenshots.
5. Review your losses. Every death has a reason — position, timing, or aim. Naming it honestly is the fastest improvement loop there is.
6. Warm up briefly. Five casual minutes before ranked-style duels measurably steadies your first real fights of the session.

The unique Rivals requirement: you must follow at least one of the game's developers on Roblox (@Nosniy or @SenseiWarrior) before any code will redeem. Follow, restart the game, then redeem — and check the code has not expired.
Keys are the main unlock currency: they open new weapons (and some items) that expand your loadout options. Earn them from duels, contracts and codes. Spend them on weapons before cosmetics.
There is no single best — the Assault Rifle is the strongest all-rounder for most players, while the Sniper and Shotgun dominate their specific ranges and maps. The best weapon is the one suited to the map and your aim that you have practised with.
Fix one sensitivity and keep it, pre-aim at head height, and play small lobbies for maximum gunfights per session. Aim improves from volume of honest fights plus small adjustments — not from changing settings every day.
