Type Soul is a Bleach-inspired fighting RPG and one of the deepest games on Roblox: three playable races, a long rank ladder, and ultimate forms that take real work to earn. It is also confusing for the first few hours, because the game explains very little. This guide fixes that — the races compared honestly, how progression actually works, and what to do first. For free rerolls and rewards, see our Type Soul codes page.
You pick one of three races — Soul Reaper, Hollow or Quincy — and climb a rank ladder by completing missions, winning fights and completing your race's objectives. Higher ranks unlock stronger abilities, and each race has its own ultimate form: Bankai for Soul Reapers, Segunda Etapa for Arrancar (evolved Hollows), and Vollständig for Quincy. Your race choice shapes your entire playthrough, so choose with the table below in mind — changing later needs reroll items.
Choose your race (see the comparison below). There is no wrong pick — all three reach the same power ceiling — but their early games feel very different.
Do missions from your race's mission board. Missions are the main source of rank progress early on; wandering and fighting random players is not.
Learn the combat basics: blocking, dodging and parrying matter more than your ability list. Type Soul fights are won by defence and timing.
Unlock your first power stage — Shikai for Soul Reapers, evolution for Hollows, Schrift for Quincy — as soon as your rank allows. It is the biggest early power jump.
Redeem codes once you reach Semi Grade 2 (codes will not work before that — details on the codes page) and spend rerolls carefully, not on impulse.
| Race | Path and ultimate form |
|---|---|
| Soul Reaper | Join a Division in the Soul Society, train your Zanpakuto and unlock Shikai, then the long road to Bankai. The most structured, beginner-friendly path, with strong all-round kits. |
| Hollow | Start weak in Hueco Mundo and evolve by defeating other Hollows: Menos, then Adjuchas, then Vasto Lorde — then tear off your mask to become an Arrancar and work toward Segunda Etapa. The hardest start, one of the strongest finishes. |
| Quincy | Serve the Wandenreich, earn your Schrift (a letter-granted unique ability) and aim for Vollständig. Ranged, technical, and built around smart ability use rather than brawling. |
Ranks (also called grades) are your account's progression ladder, from the lowest trainee grades up through Semi grades to the elite Special grades. Rank gates almost everything: code redemption opens at Semi Grade 2, and each power stage has its own rank and quest requirements. If the game will not let you do something, the answer is almost always "your rank is too low" — do missions and come back.
1. Missions first, PvP later. Mission boards give steady, guaranteed rank progress. Random PvP against higher-rank players gives almost none.
2. Do not waste rerolls. Reroll items are precious and codes are the main free source. Save them for a considered race or element change, not because a fight went badly.
3. Master the parry. One mechanic decides most close fights. Practise on NPCs until blocking and parrying are automatic.
4. Finish your power-stage quests immediately. Shikai, evolution stages and Schrift are the largest power jumps in the game — nothing else you can buy or grind matters as much.
5. Play with your race's community. Divisions, parties and race Discords organise raids and help with quests that are miserable solo.
6. Expect the meta to move. Balance patches change which builds are strongest. Invest in fundamentals — rank, power stages, combat skill — which no patch can take away.

There is no permanently best race — balance patches keep all three competitive at the top. Soul Reaper is the smoothest start, Hollow the hardest start with a huge payoff, and Quincy the most technical. Pick the style you enjoy; you will be playing it for a long time.
The most common reason is rank: you must be Semi Grade 2 or higher to redeem codes. After that, check the spelling exactly — Type Soul codes are case-sensitive — and remember codes expire quickly after updates.
Bankai is the Soul Reaper endgame: you need a high rank, a fully developed Shikai, and to complete its specific unlock requirements, which include winning fights and progression in Karakura Town activities. It is meant to take a long time — treat it as a goal for weeks, not hours.
Yes, but only with race reroll items, which come mainly from codes and events. That is why rerolls are worth saving — a race change restarts your progression path, so use one deliberately, not casually.
